At the 1913 Ghent World Exhibition, a monumental panorama glorified Belgian colonisation, while violence, forced labour and Congolese resistance were kept out of sight. More than a century later, the AfricaMuseum offers a critical re-reading: a scaled-down reconstruction of the panorama, archival materials, Congolese voices and artistic interventions expose colonial fake news and show how propaganda worked then — and continues to work today — with particular attention to young visitors.
